Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death in infants aged 1 month – 1 year, according to WebMD. New studies have shown that having a fan in your baby’s room can reduce the risk of SIDS by more than 70%! What a huge number. Of course this is no substitution for placing babies on their backs and avoiding soft mattresses or the use of many blankets which is also shown to reduce the chance of SIDS.
Having a fan in the room improves the circulation of oxygen allowing infants to breath in less carbon dioxide and more oxygen. If you can’t have a fan in your child’s room, opening a window will help also help with air circulation.
I’ll definitely be getting a little fan to add to our new nursery! What about you?
