No smoking while kids are in the car

The Oregon house voted on Wednesday to outlaw smoking in the car when anyone under the age of 16 is riding along. I love this. I always hate it when I see people smoking around young children- those poor children!

Some are saying that smoking around kids is child abuse, while others say that the law enforcers don’t have time to look for smokers in the car, nor should they care about a “personal” issue.
What do you think?

  1. I love it! I think that it should be the law everywhere! I saw a girl outside our local mall the other day smoking while sitting next to her son rubbing his forehead. I told Ryan she deserved a Mother of the Year award… some people!

  2. People they are making so many laws that goes against your rights as an American (remember land of the free]. It’s people that don’t use their brains that is ruining this country. Keep your nose out of my business. It’s none of your business if I smoke or not and where I do somewhere I own. If I want to smoke in my car with kids it’s no one’s business. It’s idiots like people on here that jumps at every little thing and wants to control what everyone ‘s doing mind your own business and quit sticking it in mine. Besides If you want to see laws passed lets outlaw computers for kids [lots of perverts out there] No junk food it’s real bad for their health. I can keep naming all kinds of things. Now do you see what I mean. If you don’t you’re idiots. Aunt Jean

  3. Love this…my mother smoked with us which led to many problems with my brother and me. She actually lit up in the car with me two feet away and pregnant. Needless to say she’ll be no where near my baby if smoking is involved.

I don’t agree with putting these people in jail and immediately naming them child abusers for the rest of their lives, but they need a BIG wake up call. Then if they continue, they really are nothing better than child abusers.

  4. That’s a great law. I remember being smoked out in the car as a kid and didn’t enjoy it. I hated the smell. I do agree that it will be hard to enforce, but at least it may help people second guess that choice.

  5. Hi Sam, just found this. I think it’s a bad law. I also think it’s real bad for people to smoke at all let alone smoke in the car with their children but using valuable and expensive police man hours to write tickets for this is ridiculous.
So, will they also be able to write tickets soon for smoking in your house when children are present?
if you can’t smoke in your car, you’ll still smoke at home with your kids, negating any effect not smoking in the car with them would have. Let’s try education and common sense please.
