Kid Friendly Earth Day Activities

Go for a walk. Let your kids touch the dirt, the grass, the bugs on the ground. Let them feel the earth, hear the sounds of nature, and feel the texture’s that surround us.

Make a pine cone bird feeder. Cover the pine cone with a mix of 1/2 a cup of vegetable shortening with 2 1/2 cups of cornmeal. Roll the pine cone in birdseed, hang it from a branch with a piece of string and watch the birds come!
Make animals from old egg cartons. A spider, a caterpillar, a camel… Add pipe cleaners for ears and jewels for eyes.
Take your cans to be recycled. This is a great way to bring up recycling. Where are the can’s going? How are they being re-used? What does it mean to recycle? For an added bonus, let them buy something fun with the money they got back! (Dollar store anyone?!)
Plant flowers in your backyard. How do flowers grow? What do we need to help them grow? How does the earth- the sun, the rain, the soil, the bugs help a plant to grow?
Celebrate Earth!

  1. Thanks for the info, but I love the looks of my blog, except, of course, for the two columns. And, yes, I do follow your blog, but privately. I’m waiting until I get a chance to read up on you a little more, until I know you a little better. Again, thanks for trying to help. I’ll remember your quick response, and if nobody is able to help me, the socks will be yours. Have a wonderful day!

  2. My mommy friends and I went out and bought tree saplings to plant today. Unfortunately we couldn’t do it today, since Earth Day proved to be incredibly cold in rainy!

So, tomorrow it is. Besides, we should celebrate Earth Day everyday!

  3. I have to take Matty to the doctor, and I should be home around four, hopefully before. Is that a good time to “meet” to talk about the socks? Oh, and I should have posted before that I’ve never done appliques on my socks before, but if that’s what you are expecting because of the picture, I’ll do it. It just might take a little longer because our Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, and Micheal’s don’t carry appliques. How stupid is that? If you want some, I’ll have to track them down somewhere, so, like I said, it may take longer, but it’s not a problem.

  4. Great thinking girl! Have a lovely day and great weekend. Thanks for the Earth Day activities. I know we are so very ready to plant some flowers around here at the Baker homestead.
