Babywearing Week

September 21st- 28th is International Babywearing Week! It’s hard to tell, but Lucas is all snuggled up to me in his Moby wrap, sound asleep at a baseball game.

Wearing your baby is what I call the answer to so many parenting troubles. I’m so glad I figured it out early on because I truly don’t know what I would do without it. It makes my life easier. We all know moms could use a little easier in their lives.
Babies favorite place is right next to you, their mama. They love to be warm and secure and they feel safe in your arms. Wearing your baby allows you to be right there with them but gives you the use of your hands! Two hands!

Have a cranky baby? Need to clean house or cook dinner? Want to go shopping without the stroller? Babywearing allows you to keep your baby happy and right there with you and frees up both of your hands. It’s the perfect recipe!

Here’s a picture of Lucas in a sling when he was just a few weeks old. That sling is my friends which was made by her friend, so it’s home made. Isn’t the print so cute? For me, the sling was really easy to put over my shoulder and put Lucas in. He would sleep in it while I stared at him and melted. Melted.

Seriously. I don’t know what I would do without it.

He is just as happy as a clam in this thing.

If you’re a mom and you’re having just one of those days when you can’t seem to get anything done, your baby is cranky and driving you crazy, and your biceps are sore from carrying him around the house all day, I would suggest trying out a wrap, sling or carrier of some sort. There are so many different kinds out there in all different price ranges.

If you wear your baby- what’s your favorite carrier? And just for fun, what’s your most favorite thing about babywearing?

Happy week!

  1. I had a sling that I adored when my daughter was born which was a lifesaver because my son was a year old and I was always needing an extra set of hands! Love babywearing!!

  2. I have a sling but I am finding that the older (and heavier) my baby gets the more uncomfortable it is for me. I have been having a lot of back pain. I bought a Moby wrap, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. It is just too much fabric to work with! I love babywearing but I need a new solution!

  3. Ahh! I've had so many slings. My very favorite was the Baby Bjorn baby sling. It was amazing for ALL ages of my baby. I also had an infant sling and an Infantino (for older babies) from the 80's. They were all very special in their own way!

Babywearing is the BOMB. And like I said, Baby Bjorn slings ALL the way!

  4. The Baby Bjorn worked great and I recently purchased the Ergo as my son has out grown the Bjorn. Both have been wonderful! My son does not like to ride in the grocery cart so both carries have been life savers while trying to shop.

  5. We had a front pack we used for the first six months, but I really wish I had known about the Moby earlier on!! We have a pouch sling, ring sling, and Moby, and each have their pros and cons, and I love them all. My husband is always asking me why we have so many ways to transport our child!

  6. I love the Storchenwiege and there are so many fantastic benefits to babywearing!! The two that spring to mind are calming a cranky baby and just glancing down to assure yourself your baby is OK.

  7. We love our Wrapsody (the wrap formerly known as Gypsy Mama).

We also have a ring sling, mei tei and what I call a not-an-Ergo, because it's a cheap knock-off of the real thing. We never actually use any of those, although I might go with the mei tai for back carries as Peeper get bigger, if I can't quite get the technique down with the Wrapsody.

I love everything about babywearing – the convenience (look Mama, no hands!), the cuddliness, and – if the truth be told – the conversations that I get to have when people comment on it!

Hmmm, I think I might have to go copy/paste this into my own blog post on the subject!

  8. I've tried a lot of different baby carrier (ring slings, pouch, onbuhimo, mei tai & wraps). I love using my mei tai for back carries. I usually use a wrap for front carries/going out with little ones, but with bigger kids, a rucksack wrap carry is the best.

Surprised to see so many people so enthusiastic about the Bjorn. Everyone I know who's tried it thinks it's ok, so long as the baby is under 12-14 pounds, but after that everyone really hated them.

My favourite thing about babywearing is having a little snuggly baby trustingly resting against you, fast asleep.

  9. Aw, how sweet! As I say in the mud mama song on my blog i didn't quite get the hang of the sling with my son and I really wanted to- I think I just had the wrong kind, it was big (with rings) and awkward (like he's get lost in there). If we do the baby thing again I will try some of these slings FOR SURE!!!

  10. i used a baby wrap in the beginning and when my little guy got big enough i started using the bjorn. I recently switched to an ergo though because he was growing out of the bjorn and it was getting majorly uncomfortable. But this past weekend I took him on two, 1 hour long walks in the ergo- on my back then on the front, and he loved it! Ended up falling asleep on my chest and I just put up the nursing hood and it was perfect. I love babywearing so much- not only does it help calm him, but he gets to see everything i do. And it helps keep me strong, toting an extra 17lbs around;)

  11. I have a hotsling that I bought when my daughter was a month or so old. I love it and still use it to this day.

Also, I gave you a blog award. Go check it out!

  12. Oh how I miss wearing my babies! I had a moby wrap and I loved it! I was able to carry BOTH of my babies at the same time.
And what did I love most about baby wearing? Just being so close to them was the best!

  13. My all time favorite is my Moby wrap. I love, love, love it!!! And so does my baby. She is turning one today and we still use it ALL the time. We use it shopping, at church, at home, at the park, and any where else that we go.

  14. I need to find something new to use…have a moby wrap but my little wiggle worm isn't very tolerant of it anymore, and I feel like he'll fall out! thx, mamas, for all the great ideas to look into!

  15. I loved the idea of the moby wrap because of the soft fabric, but didn't like how much fabric you had do deal with. I found the perfect thing: the baby k'tan. It's the same soft fabric you get in a moby, but far less fabric to deal with and no wrapping. It's awesome.

  16. Ergo Ergo Ergo! We used the Moby for quite a while when my daughter was small. It was so comfy and cozy. When she was a couple of months old, she really loved to face out and see the world, so the Moby is great for that. Once she got a little bigger (she is 9 months now) we use the Ergo constantly. I mostly put her on my back when to cook dinner, do yard work, go for walks, really anything and everything, and it is so great for getting her to take a nap while we are out on playdates with her big sister!
