Ask Mama Notes: I Answer Your Questions!

What college did you attend and what degree did you get?
I went to a small university in Oregon and graduated with a bachelors degree in Health.

What is your dream house?
My dream house is a house that is big, but not too big. Around 2000 sqaure feet maybe? I’m not good with numbers, so don’t quote me on that, but my point is I want it big enough to have all the things I want, but not too big that I have to yell at my kids through a monitor to get them down for dinner. I would love to have a entertainment room that has the TV in it for movie nights, game playing, football parties, slumber parties for the kids, and things like that. I don’t really want the TV in the main family room.

Lots of windows. Big windows. A huge yard. Somewhere safe where my kids can run around for hours outside and discover creepy crawlers, and lay in the grass. A yard with a play gym, maybe a little pond so they can fish for tadpoles or stick their feet in when they want. A wrap around porch. Or at least a front porch. A big jacuzzi tub in my bathroom. Kids bedrooms full of Pottery Barn furniture. A playroom full of art supplies, puzzles, wooden toys, legos, dolls and walls they can write on.

A island in the middle of the kitchen so my kids can color and do homework while I pretend to cook dinner. A big garage that I can park my car in and oh! oh! My very own home office. Yes, a home office just for me. A fancy one with one of those big lush chairs that spin around and a huge desk. A wood desk. A wall with a huge bulletin bored and pictures of my kids. One wall would be covered in art made my them.

A house that I own.

How old is old?
Such a great question. Every year as I grow older and wiser, my perceptive on age changes. I used to think 40 was old. My mother is 40 something (39 actually. She’s 39.) and she is certainly not old. She has better clothes and style sense than I do and I’m in my twenties. I wear her clothes. I used to think my dad was old at age 50 something ( 48 or 49) but he is not even close to old! He can run faster than me. He is much more athletic than me. He is not old.  He has a young body.

So, I guess old is when you’re just, old. When you feel old. When you’re doing old  things. Old is 70. Or 96. That’s old.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a 4th grade teacher. Until my sophomore year in college when I thought, um no. No I don’t. I don’t know what happened, but I changed my mind and thought brilliantly that teaching high school kids about nutrition, drugs and staying far away from sex until you’re old and married would be more fun. I still think it would be fun. Maybe I’ll do it some day.

How many kids do you want?
3 or 4 or 5 or whatever the good Lord gives me!

How long have you and your husband been married? How old are you?
We will be married four years in December. I’m 24. He’s 25. Yes, that means I got married at the age of 20. You must be good at math!

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a mom and a wife. I want to be happy. I want to help people, live simply and have fun.

Where did you work before you had your baby?
During college I worked at several gyms and day care centers. I also worked at a Cemetery for a little bit… I’ll tell you more about that later. I did a lot of babysitting on the side for different families, watching kids on Friday and Saturday nights. For a while I also watched some kids at my house a few days a week for a few hours after college classes. I worked with kids a lot!

What do you do when you need to get away for a while?
Ah, I’ve learned to adjust. I used to love having alone time. I really enjoy some nights all to myself, or days even to just be alone. I’m very independent and I like just being with myself. I don’t get that anymore, because I’m at home with my son every day, but that’s okay. I’ve learned to be with someone every day all day! I try to get away and go to the coffee shop or even to the grocery store or the gym by myself every now and then. It doesn’t happen often though. So I usually just hide in a closet for a few hours and read a book.

Kidding.

Lucas is in there with me of course.

What are you favorite foods?
Oh, easy. Would you like them in alphabetical order or at random? Salmon, chocolate, sweets, shrimp, American Dream pizza, chips n’ dip, guacamole, fruit snacks, tacos or any mexican food, and cheese.

What is your favorite vacation destination?
Are we talking with a kid or without? With? Somewhere with a private babysitter. Without? Somewhere tropical. Hawaii would be nice. I love cruises too.
At this point, any vacation would be a favorite!
What advice would you give to newbie bloggers?
Don’t try too hard and just be yourself. Write what you want to write, instead of writing to make a certain audience happy. Keep writing with good content and your readers will come. Also, make sure your layout on your blog is readable. It doesn’t have to be super fancy but it needs to be easy to navigate and easy to read!

That was fun folks! Thanks for letting me share a little bit about me!

  1. Cool..I like this post! Speaking of easy to read… I just wanted you to know that the posts are unreadable through email. The lines/pictures all over-lap. Maybe it is just my email though?? I don't know I have this problem w/ a handful of my subscriptions.

  2. I also got married at 20 (he is 25), and I was pregnant, so had a baby at 21. We'd only been dating a few months, too. But my husband and I have a better marriage then most of the people I know, including those who dated for 5 years and waited until they were 25-30 to get married.

  3. That was fun learning more about you! I've also worked at a gym. It was fun but doesn't compare to my SAHM job now!!
Let me know when you find that dream home so I can copy it!
And thanks for the advice for newbie bloggers… I need all I can get!
