He Figured Out the Dishwasher

Lucas learned how to crawl on the dishwasher. It’s one of those things that happens so fast, you turn your head for a minute, look back and go how did you get up there?

Oh but he’e just so cute. It’s also one of those parenting moments where you should probably discipline and correct behavior but instead you grab your camera and take pictures. I figure I’ve got to get pictures of everything he does and then I’ll teach him the right way to do things.

He doesn’t even think of anything of it.

He also just figured out how to crawl down the stairs backwards. I’ve got to get it on video because he starts about a foot away from the stairs on his stomach and then backs up until his feet touch the first stair. It’s pretty adorable.

This is ironic that I’m publishing this post immediately after the “make a special drawer in your kitchen so your child will stay out of trouble and keep himself occupied with plastic tupperware and pop bottles.” The drawer really does work… most of the time. But the dishwasher is fascinating, and he loves helping me put away the silverware.

…Could be dangerous, I know. I’m careful. We’re working on safety too. It’s on the list.

  1. That's AWESOME that he already knows how to do stairs “the right way.” Jordan just thinks he can stop halfway and turn around and go back down. doesn't work so well!

  2. My sister has three little guys (5,3 and 14 months old). She moved into a new house right before Christmas. The youngest turned 1 on Dec 15. That morning she was emptying the dishwasher and he climbed onto it and started laughing at her because he was proud of his accomplishment. Since then she has to do the dishes when he is in his chair. His two other brothers are climbers and he is showing signs of being the same way.

  3. I have similar pictures of Ingrid at that age! And she doesn't do it anymore, so don't worry, it's a cute photo op phase 🙂

Ingrid also does the stairs that way, even still she starts a mile away and inches back toward them, it's so funny!

Your little guy has the best eyes 🙂

  4. Both my kids like to help unload the dishwasher. They will pull out the plates and bowls and cups and hand them to me as I stand my the cabinet. It's fun!

  5. Love it! I got some video a few days ago of Pixie (almost 9 months) “helping” with the dishes. When the dishwashers opens up she just lights up! Apparently, pulling the bottom rack out, pushing it back in, pulling it out, pushing it in, ad nauseum, is the best fun ever.

  6. We have the same dishwasher, and it's apparently the most fun thing in the whole kitchen next to all the pots and pans! Little Guy used to always crawl up there and “help” any time it was open. It's totally off-limits now, since his weight was starting to damage the hinges of the door… he's only 23 pounds! Just something to look out for 🙂

  7. Dish washer detergent is one of the most toxic and deadly household products and look who ends up playing near it and licking it? Another reason for moms to switch over to an all natural family friendly product!

  8. N just learned how to safely go downstairs too, about 2/3 weeks go! He would just stand at the top & cry or me before that
