I was 18 years old, in my senior year in High School, working at a bagel shop. Thomas (my husband) came in one day to order a bagel sandwich. I took his order.
He was so cute.
He came back again.
And again.
I knew.. at one of those moments… that he was going to be my husband. We weren’t dating at this point or anything, but I remember walking in the back to do dishes and thinking oh my gosh… I am totally going to marry him!! It was a weird feeling and honestly, I don’t remember too much from it.
So, he kept coming back.
He invited me to his youth group. He was one of the youth leaders of his Church.
I said I couldn’t go because I was really bad at directions. (GREAT excuse isn’t it?) He sat down in the bagel shop and for 45 minutes he drew me a map – a very detailed map- of how to get there. Now I had no excuses… so I went.
It was nice. I don’t remember much about it. I think the band was too loud and I checked my hair in the bathroom.
He kept coming back to the bagel shop and we liked each other.
Because he was a High School Youth Leader ( he is only 2 years older than me but was in college while I was finishing up High School) and I was still in High School, we weren’t allowed to date.
So we didn’t.
I don’t know what your definition of dating is, but whatever we did, we’re sure it wasn’t dating. Hanging out maybe, but not dating.
We were great friends. We went on the same Mission trip together.
…… our story went on ………
On High School graduation day, he asked me out. Like, will you officially be my girlfriend?
Sure thing sweet babe.
He was the best boyfriend ever. And I’m not just saying that. He really was. He wrote me love letters.
On July 10th 2005 he asked me to marry him… in the bagel shop.
(Not like will you marry me in the bagel shop, but that is where he asked me to marry him. Get it?)
December 10th 2005 we got married.
We went to Hawaii on our Honeymoon.
I was skinny.
I can’t believe it will be five years this year! And I can’t believe my parents let me get married at the age of 20. Thanks parents! (For the blessing!!)
Love you babe.

I am two years older than you though 🙂 Too bad you don't live in Oregon any more, I feel like we've got lots in common and should be friends 🙂
