Adding Color to my Picture Collage

I worked on a little project last night. (Go me!) We have a small picture collage in our family room that I have been wanting to tweak for some time. Something about it was just bugging me and I wasn’t completely satisfied with it.
BEFORE:

This is the best before shot I have, which is obviously not the completed collage. You can get the idea from this though- all black and white pictures in white frames moderately spread apart from one another.

AFTER:

45 holes and an hour later, here is what it looks like after. What would take my mother 15 minutes to do took me over an hour. Seriously! To my defense, I was also watching Glee while doing this. But, I couldn’t decide on which pictures I wanted, where I wanted them hung, how close together, etc. I obviously really put too much of my heart into this.

I’ve looked at it for so long that now I can’t tell if it looks good or not! I think I like how the color pictures stand out among the black and white ones- and I love black and white. I like how the color looks in the white frames as well. What do you think? I need another set of eyes on this!

  1. It looks great to me! But I have a suggestion I stole from someone I can't remember who….

Cut a piece of paper the size of the wall where you want the pics to go. Lay it on the floor and arrange and rearrange to your hearts content. When you like it, trace around the pics with a pencil. Tape the paper to the wall then put in the holes to hang! Then you only need like 40 holes instead of 45.
(disclaimer: I have only seen this performed on a blog and have never tried it myself)

  2. I like the look of the black and white mix. Where in your house is that? I don't think I have that kind of wall space anywhere except for coming down my stairs…. Everything else has paintings or sconces or something!

What I like the MOST is that its not uniform. It's not like right top corner is color so the bottom left corner should be black and white. It just looks good the way it is!
