Making Biscuits with Lucas

Lucas is going to be cooking me dinner by the time he’s five.

I’m not kidding.

I teach him how to clean and his dad teaches him how to cook.

It’s genius, really.

Tonight, Lucas makes biscuits.

Follow along.

Have daddy get the flour and whatever other ingredients you need to make biscuits with. (I was just in charge of taking the pictures. I don’t know the actual ingredients. Please don’t expect too much of me.)

Help daddy mix and mash everything together.

Make the flour as flat as you can.
Push it, slap it, slam it, elbow it. Whatever you got to do.

Taste it….. just a little…. to make sure it’s appropriate for cooking.

Look at mama with those gorgeous blue eyes.

Put a big mug over the flour and press down to make the shape of a circle. For biscuits, obviously.

Four huge biscuits are better than ten small ones. Trust me.

Show mama your teeth when she ask you to smile.

After you’ve put the four huge biscuits on the cooking tray (what are they called?) watch daddy put them in the over. Remember, it’s Hah! Hah! so be careful.

(That’s H for HOT.)

While the biscuits are cooking, clean up your mess. This is possibly, the most important step.

Put your chair away and wait until dad takes them out of the oven.

Be patient. I know it’s hard, but you have to be. The whining gets really old. (Mom says so.)

This is the best part! You get to EAT what you just made!

Dip it in some chili and you have the perfect companion to a biscuit.

And that my friends, is how you make a biscuit. In case you were wondering, or needed ideas for dinner tonight.

I was thinking with all this picture taking, I would create a book of a toddler making meals.

Not kidding about this either. Well, I just thought about it, and I think it might work. I need to figure out something to do with all these pictures!

Put fun recipes together (ask husband) and take pictures of Lucas making it! Would you buy it? Don’t steal my idea. I’ll keep you updated on our progress.

Book agents, please contact me ASAP.

Happy cooking ya’ll!

  1. I got right to the end of that and then went 'Doh!'. In NZ a biscuit is a cookie, so I read the 'dip it in some chili' and went 'Ewwwwwww'. Perhaps your biscuit is kind of like our scone? I just don't know.

  2. If nothing else, you should make a photo book with him helping cook and include the recipes and give it to grandparents or other family members for Christmas. They would love it!

  3. okay… so it's just a package recipe. HAHA!

It's the Bisquit Brand that we got from Costco… you can use it to make pancakes or whatever else.

(My husband says “it's not a recipe. It's not worth telling people.”)

go to costco.. buy the box.. add water and milk, its yummy! 🙂

    WHOLE MILK he says.

He says he will come back later and give you something from scratch
