October

Oh October. How I welcome you with open (excited/anxious/crazy) arms!

I love October for several reasons. October = Fall. And I love Fall.

Fall = football. And I love football.

Fall = rain. And I love rain. It’s been raining here the last several days, and snow is predicted to start within the next several weeks.

October = two months away from Christmas. DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED.

October = having a baby and not being pregnant anymore. And I love having a baby!

I am 37 weeks today. I really can’t believe it. Full term, baby! Baby! How many of you have been following me along since I found out I was pregnant? Does it feel like it’s been 37 weeks? Doesn’t that sound like a lot of weeks?! Someone at my work the other day said man, it feels like you’ve been pregnant for a long time!

Ohhh, does it now? I love that.

I know it’s not very good, but this is the best picture I could get this morning. I asked Lucas to touch my belly and he told me no. So that’s that.  My belly is large and in charge, so don’t mess with it.

Since we’re getting down to the final days here, I added a fun little poll to my sidebar if you want to play. Guess the gender of this baby and when you think he or she will make his arrival!

Oh and also, thank you – thank you– so much for your comments left on my last post. You are great readers, er friends (who I haven’t met yet) to me! I’m already feeling better and more at peace with things. I had a great talk last night with the Lord and our enemy. 🙂

On my to do list:

  • Buy a bassinet- I’m thinking the Arms Reach Co Sleeper. Thoughts? I’ve been keeping my eyes open on craigslist hoping to find a good deal.
  • A good nursing tank- I’m thinking the Bravado. Thoughts?
  • Get out a few baby things from storage
  • Buy a twin bed for Lucas. What do you think? He is in his crib now and we don’t have plans of taking him out of it for a while. We thought we would just buy the mattress and have it on the floor for him to get used to it until we’re actually ready to make the transition. Thoughts?
  • Pack my/baby/Lucas bag
  • Get a massage and spend some alone time at the bookstore this weekend!!!

So, I’m having a baby in October. What are your plans?

  1. I wish I was having a baby in October…oh well, maybe next year! 😉

We purchased an Arms Reach Co-Sleeper and really liked it, Caleb sleeps between us most of the time as he got bigger but the co-sleeper was really nice when he was a little baby! Also, it can be used as a travel crib (we got the mini sized so it was easier to travel)

I have been reading since before you were pregnant! 🙂 I can't believe you are 37 weeks already! I think time flies once you have kids…do you think so too?

I'm going to go fill out the bar side survey now! I'm glad you are posting so much these days, I love luh love your blog! 🙂

  2. Well, my baby isn't coming until Nov (the 2nd) but October is one of my favorite months and I am so excited it's here!! Plus by the time the month is over I will only have two days left until we meet our new little one!!

This month I plan to –

teach lots and lots of school
    go on some fieldtrips
spend lots of time with my windows open
help my sister and her family move into my basement
    pack and prepare for baby
    start Christmas shopping

    Gonna be a busy month!!

  3. My plans are to get pregnant with #2 in October! But, sshhhhh . . . only the husband and I know those plans 🙂

About the Bravado tank . . . have you tried it before? I absolutely LOVE the bravado bras, but was highly disappointed in the tank. It just never fit me correctly and I didn't care the material.

  4. Well I had planned to have a baby in September but apparently he/she had other ideas so I too will be having a baby in October!

Check out Graco's Bedroom Bassinet- it's a mini play yard with bassinet that we loved using. I did a review on it here… http://fromonemommatoanother.blogspot.com/2010/07/graco-bedroom-bassinet-review.html

We bought bunk beds and used the 'top' bunk as a toddler bed. Really, it's best to keep them in the crib as long as possible though- just safer all around.

Other than that October will be Thanksgiving and Halloween for us!

  5. I wanted a co-sleeper SO bad but I never found one for a good price so I settled with a bassinet, which I actually only use to change Des in the middle of the night… it's hard for me to not have him right next to me, I am weak I know, I try every night to put him in the bassinet and fail.

Nursing tank: I bought one at Target and LOVE it, it has great support at night and is ease to unclasp and clasp, and I believe it was only $12 at the time, which was a plus, I only wish I would have bought more than one.

I think putting the bed on the floor at first is a great idea… I know you can get a side bar that attaches to a twin bed so he won't fall off whenever you guys decide he is ready for the bed to be off the floor, I believe they are fairly inexpensive.

  6. Meg- YES, time DOES fly! It's so crazy!!

Amanda- Who knows, could be an October baby?!!!

Beth- That is so exciting!! Good luck to you! I haven't tried the tanks yet, just heard good things. Maybe I will look at the bras instead, thanks!

Christina- Congratulations, that is so exciting! Your baby will be here any day now!!

Jaimie- I will look at the ones at Target. I was going to go today but thought it might be a little hard with Lucas, so hopefully this weekend. 🙂 The bassinet is pretty much like the co- sleeper, just goes besides your bed. You are NOT weak! I love sleeping with my baby and I know i will with this one too, I just need a place for him/her to be when it's not night time. 🙂

    Thanks everyone! Love you guys!

  7. We used the Original Arms reach Co-Sleeper for about 6 months and LOVED it. It didn't quite line up with our bed so it wasn't a smooth matching, but it worked wonderful. Plus you can use it as a pack and play. The mini is just too small IMO, but that will depend on how long you plan to use it for. It probably would hae worked great for us since we started bedsharing at 6 months, but I don't think it would have gone a full year.

And no, to me it seems 37 weeks has flown by!! I can't wait to meet the little one!

  8. I was thinking.. we could also use a new pack n' play so if we got the arms reach it would be nice to have that option to take it on trips or whatever. Our current pack n' play is really old and uncomfortable! Or at least.. it looks/feels uncomfortable! 🙂

  9. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the Bravado Nursing tank!!! I wore them EVERY SINGLE DAY through the whole 13 months I nursed! I recommend them to everyone and everyone I know that tried it loved it too!

  10. I am having a Baby too in Oct..I am due Oct 20 th ,but they will be do ing my 3rd C- section by Oct 13 ..So I have 12 days or less:) Super Excited!!!

  11. I had a baby last month. She is one month old today! She was born at 37 weeks. I hadn't packed a bag yet so I was doing that while in labor! 🙂

(This month, I plan to sit back and enjoy fall and enjoy being with my kids and enjoy bonding with my new baby. Time moves so quickly and I don't want to miss a minute.)

Sure, go for it with the bed for Lucas. My kids all moved out of their cribs early (or never slept there at all). My 2-year-old sleeps on a mattress in the floor so it should make the transition to a bed easier. The baby sleeps in a Moses basket. We like that it doesn't take up much room and it is super portable.

  12. I love my Bravado nursing tanks. Somewhat expensive, but even this uber-frugal momma thinks they are SO, so worth the money.

I would go ahead and put the mattress on an actual twin bed to let Lucas get used to it. Otherwise you'll have yet another change when you do finally put the mattress on a bed frame. Just be wary of the gaps on older (very old) twin beds. I have a hand-me-down twin bed that's got a huge gap and I can't really safely sleep a toddler in it.

  13. I love Bravado nursing tanks. I probably have 10 and wear one almost everyday. They are super comfy and great to nurse in. BUT, I love the bras more! Highly recommend the Bliss and Allure 🙂

Hope you enjoyed your massage! I had one prenatal massage between both pregnancies, and that hour was absolutely wonderful!

Can't wait for baby girl or boy to get here!!!

  14. Hey, I also have been following since you found out you were pregnant. For me it has flown by, I can not believe you are 37 weeks already.
I do love reading your blog and seeing your belly grow (and watching Lucas get bigger:)

Both of my babies are October babies. So I will be celebrating birthdays this month:) They will be 3 and 4. I have a girl and boy.

I am anxious to see your new baby on the outside, lol. Who doesn't love a newborn though, right??

  15. I'm having a baby in March, so about 6-8 weeks ago we moved the crib back to our bedroom(which the other LO never slept in anyway) and set up a toddler bed in his room. This was A BIG STEP because we have been co-sleeping the entire 16 months! So, 6-8 weeks later, LO is napping in his toddler bed and sleeping a few hours at night in it before he climbs into bed with me. Not bad, so I'd say you could try the twin bed with Lucas if you haven't already…he's a bit older than my guy, right? Give it a shot!
