An Update on Joshua

I honestly have to look at my calendar right now and count back because I don’t know if Joshua is (almost) 7 or 8 weeks old. Is that bad? I am just doing the “2 month” thing now.
Okay. He is eight weeks!!! Is that right?  That doesn’t seem right. I have been telling people he’s 7 weeks for the past two weeks I think. He was born October 27th. Look on your calendar- will he be 8 weeks on Wednesday? TWO MONTHS BABY!
I thought I would give a little update on how he is doing and the screaming/crying fits. I am happy to say he is doing so much better!! He still does some crying and fussing, but it has gone way down and he doesn’t do the random screams anymore.
I stopped drinking milk, so I don’t know if that has had anything to do with it or if it’s just a coincidence in him getting older.  I still have dairy – yogurt, cheese, eggs, etc- so it’s hard to say. I plan on trying milk again in a week or so, and we’ll see if the crying comes back.
During the day he either sleeps in his car seat (when we’re driving or for a bit when we get home) or on me. Occasionally in the swing. I still don’t “lay him down” for naps and if he’s asleep and I want to transfer him to a bed for a nap? Forget it. He wakes up. I usually put him in the Moby during Lucas’ nap time so I can relax or get some things down around the house. I can sit on the couch and play on the internet or take a snooze (sitting reclined, obviously, on my back) or do some cleaning and picking up of the house. This seems to work really well for both of us and keeps us happy!
He is great sleeper at night. I am so lucky! Have you ever heard those moms talk about how their newborn is sleeping through the night or only waking up 1-2x and you just look at them like What planet are you from?? and Can you give my child some of THAT? (Or, maybe I am just used to Lucas who woke up every 2-3 hours for a long time)

Well. I can’t believe it (and I should probably not even talking about it because now he will be up every 2 hours tonight.. that’s how it always is, I swear) but he has slept through the night quite a few times (as in 10pm-5am) and most often wakes up around 2am and again at 6am and then up for the day around 8/9am.
It’s so funny because Lucas usually wakes up during the nights when Joshua is sleeping good and my husband and I just have to laugh. My almost two year old is crying but my newborn is snoozing away….
I take him to bed with me around 10 or 11. I have to bounce/walk/rock him to sleep and do a slow and careful transfer, but usually it’s pretty smooth. Sometimes when he wakes up around 2am I’m up for an hour with him trying to get him to go back to sleep, but most of the time he is stellar.
Like, totally stellar dude.
The other night my husband and I were watching a movie (The Town- pretty good!) and I had him in the Moby and was bouncing him on the ball pretty much through the entire thing. He didn’t fall asleep till the end, he was just hangin’ out in there. But he was happy and you know what, I wanted to watch the movie, so I did it.
He takes milk from a bottle just fine. My husband gives it to him while I’m at work a couple days a week. No problem there, thank goodness!
He is finding his hand and I’m cheering him on from the sidelines. I would love a thumb sucker this time around. I never want to see another pacifier in my sweet life after we get rid of these things. He does take a pacifier though, occasionally, but he still has trouble keeping it in his mouth! I assume (and hope!) that when his mouth is bigger he’ll be able to keep it in better.
(Or just find your thumb, puuhhlllllese)

I think that’s about it! I still can’t believe I have two boys and I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself in a year when I have two toddler boys. Seriously. I am going to turn our backyard into an oasis for them and just let ’em have it. Yes, even in the cold. That’s why they make coats.
I am so excited that my sons will have each other. They each have a brother! I think that’s so cool. If you’re a girl, you always want a sister. If you’re a boy, you always want a brother. I am so happy they can be brothers and I hope they will be really close. Although they are not allowed to play violent video games. I’m serious, I hate those things. They can play them when they are teenagers, maybe.
But I think brothers is so sweet. Now, next I want two girls. That would be so fun!!
(not for a while… please… )

  1. They are SO cute together! I wish my son had a brother and who knows, maybe someday he will. But right now I am just thrilled that Ella {my 3 year old} has just received a sister. A sister is so special and is supposed to be your life long best friend, and I can't help but be so excited inside for my girls, that they will always have each other.

  2. So glad things are going well. He is ADORABLE!
I agree with you on the brothers and sisters thing. I was lucky and got 2 sisters and we are all still best friends.
Two girls would be fun – but not at the same time!! 🙂

  3. My little one was the same way fro sleeping until about 8 weeks. She only slept while being held or in the car seat. Then it was like sombody flipped a switch. She is now an awesome sleeper and so peaceful, totally different baby than those first weeks.

  4. Minus the milk thing, I could've written this post about Marin! She's also a (likes to be held when she naps and sleeps well at night and recently is finding her hands and doesn't quite keep the paci in all the time kind of baby too). And since Harper decided to catch up to her peers in the teething dept. since Marin was born (almost 7 new teeth, including all 4 molars, in 2 months) we've also had more night wakings with the 18 month old than the 2 month old in our house as well 🙂

Just saw your comment about the zoo! I'd love to go with you guys – we have a membership too that hasn't been used since we went to Zoo Boo on Halloween. I'll email you!

Hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas.

  5. Oh and since I have 2 girls. I want 2 boys next. Twins, actually since my husband only wants 3 and twins may be the only way I get to have the 4 kids I want 😉
