30 Day Guinea Pig: You Name My Challenge

I have a fun idea that I want to share with you. I’ve actually been thinking about doing this for several months but have never actually followed through with the said idea. You know how we’re always hearing about new exercise and fitness programs to follow? Have you ever wondered, do those REALLY work? You want to know if it works but you don’t want to be the one to try it?! Because what if it doesn’t work?

This is what I’m thinking.  You (my readers/friends) would pick which challenge you’d like me to do. The majority vote wins and I will do the program for 30 days. I will keep track of what workouts I’m doing daily and share them with you at the end or once a week. (Or whenever I want.)   At the end I will share with you my before/after pictures and stats. Then we will see if this program really works for a typical busy mom like me!

Here are the programs that I’m willing to do. I would actually be willing to do most anything but these are the ones that I currently have access to and have the proper equipment and space needed.

{I can’t do P90X because I don’t have that DVD- sorry!}

  • 30 Day Shred – Jillian Michaels DVD ( I will have to mute it so I don’t hear her voice every day. Don’t tell her. I did her DVD a couple years ago but it was sporadic so I don’t recall if it worked or not.)
  • Body Rock TV – BodyRock.tv (Can you really do these exercises she is showing us and look like her? Minus the perky humongo boobs. She clearly has not been breastfeeding lately. I mean that in a nice way, I hope that didn’t come off as mean. I like her boobs!)
  • Running – I can follow any running program suggested
  • What else?
I am really open to doing anything so let me know if you have any suggestions!!

A few things to note:

:: I will do whichever program is chosen for 30 days. After that I may or may not continue it. (I realize some programs might require more than 30 days to see “maximum” results but I want to see what can happen in just a months period. I feel like if something is that good then you should see fairly positive changes in 30 days.)
::  No matter what program I do I will still be doing 3-5 days of cardio, for most likely 30 -60 minutes. This is for several reasons. One, I enjoy cardio to a certain extent. Two, I want to keep up with running at least a couple days a week simply because I love getting outside in the fresh air and having that alone time. And three, if not the most important, The Bachelor is on Monday nights (holla!) and I need to watch it if I am to survive, so I must go to the gym and elliptical while doing so!
:: I will not doing any program 7 days in a row. I will be taking 1-2 days a week off.
:: I will be eating healthy but I won’t be following any specific or crazy diet. Just normal, typical stuff.
:: I promise to be 100% honest in what I did or didn’t do and what I share with you so that you can decide if the program is something that you might want to do yourself!

What do you think? If there is enough interest in me doing something like this I will put up a poll and let the majority decide what program I should embark on for 30 days!

  1. I would love to see you look into running programs that focus on increasing speed. I hit a hump pre prego and I can't seem to drop my 5k time. I can run for a long time but I'm slow and would love using you as a guinea pig to figure out how to drop time.

  2. I think most of Jillian's DVDs have a “music only” option, though if you're going to mute the instructions anyway I figure you may as well pick your own music too!

After having Pixie, I had good results with 30 Day Shred. I tried a variety of different programs that I could view free on cable with On Demand before settling on a routine, and by summer I was consistantly doing Jillian's 30 Day Shred (on lvl 2 by then), her Yoga MeltDown and also her No More Trouble Zones. NMTZ will kick your BUTT, by the way.

That said, I got the impression from your blog that you had taken up running, so maybe you'd enjoy the Couch to 5k program? If you don't enjoy the work-out, it'll be harder to see good results, and you certainly won't want to stick with it!

  3. Hey Samantha,

I actually think our new program (which is technically only open to our own newsletter subscribers but what the heck, I'll let everyone here know about it since we're online buddies) would be a perfect fit for you!

It's called Thrive90 Fitness, and it's actually a 90-day program. However, you could choose any of the three phases depending on how challenging you want to make it. It's a 5-day per week program with 2 days devoted to cardio. All of the workouts can be done at home, they're all High Definition web video, and they're all 30 minutes or less. We've seen great results from everyone who has went through the program so far.

Anyway, here's a link to all the details:

If you decide you want this to be the program you use, just let me know (@EngagedMarriage) and I'll give you free access!

Regardless, best of luck to you!

  4. Hey Sam…so I love this idea! You are already a pretty good runner…right? So it might be fun to mix it up…I would love to see what the Jillian Michaels workout does. Another program you could do is my sis' Facebook page…Hot Mama:Daily workouts!! I swear by it!
Whatever you decide to do, I am anxious to hear how it goes!!! How do I link up to your Body After Baby?

  5. Tracy,
I will have a new linky up with tomororws BAB post. Just copy your body after baby post url and put it in the link. I USED to be a decent runner, I'm trying to get back into it. I want to do a half this summer, we will see!

Can you leave the link to the Hot Mama Daily Workouts on FB? I couldn't find it!

  6. Samantha – Do it!!! Can I do it with you? haha! I would love a “program” type thing because I am just so busy that it is hard for me to just come up with things to do consistently. I think “watching” you do any program that can be done at home or the gym would be most beneficial because there are those of us that just can't go to the gym.

  7. I would love to see how Jillian Michaels works out! Because that is one that I could do at home once my baby is born. No gym here!
