the Peanut Butter Debate

Peanut butter is a pretty important ingredient in my house. I have it almost every day, either on toast in the morning or with an apple or banana as a snack. We currently have two different types of peanut butter that we’re eating- let me know which you prefer!

Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter

* ORGANIC
* Healthier
* Has to be kept in the fridge
* Harder to spread
* A little bit more expensive
* Taste good

JIF Creamy Peanut Butter

* Contains hydrogenated oil
* Less expensive
* Super easy to spread
* Taste verrrrry yummy
* NOT AS HEALTHY
* Lucas and husband (well, and me too) like it better. (Lucas won’t eat the other stuff yet)

What does your family eat?

We go on a rotation here. I like JIF tasting better, but I like Kirkland because it’s organic and healthier. I stand strong with both sides of the argument; healthier/tastier/cheaper/harder to spread. 🙂

What do you like?

  1. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, try their organic peanut butter. It is kept in the fridge, too. As long as you stir it well when you first open the jar, you'll have no problems spreading the peanut butter. I have tried many brands and TJ's is the best!

  2. We use the Kirkland one. Any time I can buy something organic, especially for my children, I do. Children who eat just 70% organic food have 6x less pesticide's in their bodies than those who eat conventionally grown food. Does the JIF contain sugar? Many PB's do. U necessary IMO. 🙂

  3. I think you are fine with any Natural and or organic brand. I usually buy what is on sale!
    My whole family eats and enjoys the natural stuff. When my DD was 3 ( now 6), she had “regular” PB for the first time and was sure it was chocolate. It was super funny… 🙂

  4. I buy the store brand natural peanut butter. it is slightly more expensive but I feel so much better that my kids are not eating hydrogentated oils. they already eat too much crap as it is (like cereal and Mac and Cheese – I buy the Annie's so at least it is mostly good for them) Great post!

  5. Is that the only organic PB you've tried? The one I buy (not sure which one it is right now) tastes about the same to me & doesn't require refrigeration or stirring!

  6. Yeah I also use to JIF natural, its is delicious! I also like to make my own which is super easy with a food processor and then I can control what goes into, since we have it everyday.

  7. JIF is good, but I make my own. It tastes THE SAME! No joke.
    I use Honey Roasted Peanuts and Peanut Oil. That's IT!! Sometimes a dash of sugar, but it's so delicious!! About the same price too.

  8. I can't eat peanut butter anymore, but when I tried it, I went for the not so healthy stuff. I like sugar in my peanut butter, and when I look on the back of the jar there really isn't that much, so I justify it that way.

    Eat whichever one you like best 🙂

  9. ALL THIS ORGANIC CRAP IS HOG WASH. JIFF IS THE BEST.! DO PEOPLE THINK THAT BIRDS OR OTHER ANIMALS DON'T BRING CRAP ON YOUR GROUND OR HOW ABOUT RUN OFF RAIN COME ON GIVE ME A BREAK. THERE IS TO MUCH HIPE OVER ORGANIC IT'S JUST A DIFFERENT WAY OF GETTING YOU TO OPEN YOUR BILLFOLD WIDER.

  10. We eat whatever is on sale when I go shopping. Right now we have JIF and Skippy in the cupboard. We dont eat it every day, but I would say 25 out of 30 days we do.

  11. We do Adam's Crunchy Natural peanut butter. I'm lucky that my husband will eat nearly anything I buy/make (except Green Monsters and roasted sweet potatoes with the skin on). I doubt he's even noticed that I upgraded from Jif. 🙂
