If I Can’t Run, I’ll Read About Running

On Thursday while doing some yoga, I somehow tweaked my left knee.  That makes me a little irritated, because the only reason I was doing yoga in the first place was to become a better runner. Yoga is suppose to be good for you….. you know, increase muscle strength,  improve flexibility and mental strength. Well, the move where you put your leg back (I don’t know the exact definition or pose)  made my knee hurt.

No bueno yoga.

I don’t think it’s anything serious, but it’s definitely sore.

I was suppose to run 8 miles this morning, but I didn’t.  I’m hoping it was the right choice. I’ve been bummed out about my non running morning all day, but I certainly don’t want to make my knee worse! So, I didn’t run today… and probably won’t tomorrow either. Instead, I’ve been reading all about running and training and how I can become a better and faster runner. I want to do some serious changes to my training schedule, because currently all my runs are done at the same pace. And, if I want to improve my speed, I need to start doing some tempo runs and more speed work.

But I will keep my long runs at a slow speed because I do love just running to run, no matter how slow or fast that takes me! I don’t run to be fast anyways, I run to run, however I would like to be faster than a snail.

There are a ton of running books I want to read! They didn’t have the book I wanted at the library, which means I’ll probably have to buy it. Darn. 🙂  I checked out two other random books that looked interesting.  I hope they have some good information in them!

I’m also icing my knee — we’ll see what that does. Oh, yes that’s a bag of frozen fruit that I’m using as my ice pack because we don’t have any ice cubes in our house. Don’t worry mom, I’ll get some before you come.  Oh and that pillow is from Target. I knew you were going to ask.

{updated: I just got done icing my knee for about 5 minutes and now it actually feels worse. Is that normal?}

I am really hoping that my knee feels better very soon! I am freaking out not running and worried about losing my strength and everything. I was on such a roll and doing so good, I’m so worried about getting off schedule and getting into a funk!

For every minute that I should be running, I’m spending on researching/reading about running. 🙂

  1. I loved this book called Run Like a Mother: How to get moving and not lose your family, job or sanity. It has really inspired me! (I also got it free a while back on Amazon for my Kindle.)
