Alaskan Summers

Alaskan summers are sooooo awesome.

These pictures were taken with my (broken screen- I need to get that fixed!) iphone, so it’s not great quality. But, you can still get the idea how bright & light it is! All these pictures were taken between 10:00-10:15pm.

It’s pretty much light all day long. This is only my 2nd summer here, but I know starting in May we gain about 5 minutes (Alaskans- back me up here?) of day light a day! It’s so crazy. In June, the sun never really goes down. I think technically it’s the sun is down between 2-4am or something like that, but it never really gets dark.

We have curtains (or, um, really high class blankets) covering our windows so it’s dark in our bedrooms.

I personally love it! I can seriously go for a run at 10pm if I want, or you can go hiking and be out until 11:30 and you get down and you’re like, “ it’s time to go to bed??” You feel like it’s early in the afternoon when it’s really evening.

  1. The sunshine is great, but it makes me stay up later and get up earlier than normal. Today I saw the sun rise around 5:30 am, so I figured it was time to get up and stay up. Now? I'm exhaaaaaausted! Maybe the 12 1/2 mile bike ride through the hills didn't help.

  2. “(broken screen- I need to get that fixed!) iphone” There will be an Apple store in Anchorage soon!! I'm really excited and trying to transfer to it (currently I'm at a store in California).

PS Hi! I've never commented, but have been following for about 2 years. If I do actually get to transfer, I will probably be bugging you with quite a few more questions 🙂
