Party in My Crib – 2am

Lucas woke up at 2am last night.

Not to get a diaper change or find his binky, but to get. up.

I told him it was night night time.
He wanted to read books.
I told him I can’t see the words in the dark.
Please turn the light on?
No. the light is off. Because it’s two in the morning. Night Night Time.

I brought him into my bed to sleep with me.
You know how that goes…

He was laying with me.
Pulled the blanket over me.
Played with my hair.
Touched my face.
So sweet.

Then Joshua woke up and I told him I needed to go get him.
He wouldn’t have it any other way, so he came with me.
He sat on the floor very quietly and nicely while I nursed Joshua.

Back in our room.
I think we were both almost asleep. Finally.
Then randomly, he starts blowing on my husband’s face.

My husband starts laughing.
Lucas is sleep drunk at this point.
Have you ever seen a sleep drunk toddler?
Pretty funny.

He was laughing hysterically.
Going crazy.
We were all laughing now.

I get him into this own room again around 2:30.
He asks to read books again.
I read them — although it’s more like making up words to pictures that I can’t even see.

He falls asleep around 2:30 or 2:45. In the morning.
He’ll probably sleep in late this morning, I imagine.
Considering he was up last night and all.
That will be nice.

6:36am.
He wants to play cars.

I think he misses me.
I’ve worked the past six days in a row, been gone for most bed times.
He’s not used to that.

I miss him too.
Not sure about 2 in the morning, but I miss him too.

  1. this post had me giggling. but then also cringing, because I've had nights like this. And it makes me into the mommy monster in the morning. hope you got some good naps from him today!
