Warm Winter and Dark Skies

Oh my word — currently locking my children in the backyard. But it’s not working and they keep yelling at me through the window and I don’t understand why they just won’t play. So yes I am blogging right now as they yell at me, opeeeeen the dooooooooorrrrrrrrr!!!!! It’s not locked, so they could open if they wanted to, but I think they think it’s locked. I’m winning.

Soon I will just let them play in the front yard. They’ll do that happily and I can finish my chores, or blogging – whichever comes first. Lucas has planted an apple tree. Several, in fact. Watered daily by filtered water from the refrigerator, as if the snow slush and rain we’ve had today isn’t enough. He is certain a tree will grow soon, a result from the seeds he found in the 2 apples he eats every single day. Wouldn’t that be wonderful if an apple tree did indeed grow in our front yard? How his vision would come true and we really would never have to go to the store again.

Today is the first day of the rest of the year in 2015. I woke up to the sound of my kids wanting a yogurt, a short 6 hours after I went to bed. I finished a book and watched an episode of Parenthood last night; party hard all the time. This morning it was dark, so dark outside. Gloomy and cloudy, a sky full of depression. I wanted to go for a walk but it was so dark. Sometimes I really hate these winters lights. I slowly emerged to life; regretting my short attempt to get decent sleep the night before.

We went for a hike. A warm soggy winters hike. Do you see how much snow is on the mountain? Almost none. So crazy! I am actually starting to see grass in my backyard as the snow is melting today from the warm (35-40degree) temps and light rain falls.

Snowball fights and discoveries, batman caves and collecting sticks. I almost felt like I was training my kids for future hikes. They walked for a little over an hour and did great, but feet were tired by the end.

As they play quietly and peacefully and without fighting an inch this afternoon, I looked at races for this upcoming year. They remind me summer is coming soon and for that I am excited and hopeful. I’m thinking about this blog and how much I want to write here and how often. Do I need a schedule or can I just post randomly? I’m definitely going to be adding in a weekly fitness/health posts with updates on my goals and how I’m movin…. weekly cooking/recipe show, maybe… and more day in the life posts…anyways. That’s all for now. xoxo.
